Description
Some historians describe the history of modern Germany as a Sonderweg (special path), distinctively German, uniquely devastating and decidedly controversial. This course analyses whether this conceptualisation is appropriate in the context of European history from 1848 to today. Themes include: revolution, unification and partition; the Kaisserreich in war and peace; Weimar democracy; Nazi Germany; the Cold War.
